What I Learned From My Camera

For my birthday last year, I requested a new camera. Although my previous one was much loved, it was not of the latest technology and had issues taking photos of small children... i.e. every photo displayed a side/back of a head as the subject was moving constantly.  I thought that perhaps a new camera would not only take better photos, but also have a quicker shutter speed. It does not have a faster shutter speed. If I want to get a photo of the children smiling, it has to be on the down-low. Turn and click - which much hoping that they are actually in the lens frame. Any movement towards attempting to pose, look in the viewfinder or speak to either children will result in a blurry mess. (Or a grand photo of Lala's neck. Point a camera towards her and say "smile" and she hears, "grin like the Cheshire cat while staring that the ceiling" No idea why.)  The ones that look great? These are the ones in the moment. Nothing planned or posed. No disappointment of unmet expectations. Just a quick snap and moving on.

Sometimes my life needs to be like too. I've been so busy lately attempting to keep up with everything, stressing about undone tasks that I haven't been enjoying most days. I'm watching the clock, waiting for bed time, because "I have to do.... and .....!" And procrastinating many things because my mind is running so fast that I just need time to space out. Instead, what I need to do is focus on the immediate - what do I really need to do right now and what is not so important? How can I enjoy my time with the children more? Lala, especially, is in the early explorer stage and she's just so excited about everything new! How can I keep the enjoyment in it for both of us?

Strange, the things we learn from inanimate objects can be so filled with life.

I struggle with that too- so many great "photo ops" and while I am moaning over the missed opportunity I am missing out on just being with them in the moment. But I really do want some photos as keepsakes...
